VEJA is a great brand in so many ways, independent two decades in and completely focused on moving the needle with impact, I got my first pair in 2015 and I think these more fashion forward ones are just weird enough to be wardrobe staples as I travel - they do come in other colors. Veja was founded in Paris in 2004 by childhood friends [Sébastien Kopp and François-Ghislain Morillion] two former bank analysts who quit finance after auditing supply chains for fair-trade pioneer Alter Eco and concluding the sneaker industry could be rebuilt from the raw material up. Their first shoe shipped in 2005, made in Brazil from organic cotton bought directly from farmer cooperatives in the Northeast and wild rubber tapped in the Amazon — paying producers multiples of commodity price and treating the supply chain itself as the product.
